Sometimes the ice maker stops making ice. You need to ensure that the ice maker is turned on and the water pipe is connected to the refrigerator and is not leaking. You need to reset your ice maker either if you have recently installed it or when it isn’t working well. In both, the cases make sure that the refrigerator is plugged in for almost 2 hours. In the other case if the ice maker isn’t working and your ice tray is giving you a hard time then all you need to do is to reset your ice maker. You can reset your ice maker either automatically or manually.
Before Resetting the Ice Maker
Open the fridge. You’ll find an ice room on your left side. Open the ice room and remove the ice bucket that collects the ice. The ice maker has a light sensor feature that prevents the ice bucket from overflowing. The tray holds up to 4 to 5 ounces of water so to save the floor from getting wet you need a towel. Take a handy towel and keep it at the place of the ice bucket so that it can catch any water or ice that will fall from the ice tray at the time of the reset process.
Types of the ice tray
If you have an Lg refrigerator then the newer model of the ice maker has a different ice tray then from the ice tray of the older model. Both will have different reset process.
1)early twist flex tray
This type of ice tray can be found in the newer model of Lg ice makers. The early twist tray comes with an on and off switch. It makes it easier to power off the ice maker even if the fridge is on.
2) heater/custom cube
These custom cube ice trays are found in older models of LG refrigerator. It doesn’t come with a power switch. So turning the ice maker on or off is a bit tricky.

1)Early twist flex tray
When you’ll open the ice room you will find an on/off switch on the left side of the unit. On the underside of the front of the tray is a test/fill button. Press and hold that until the ice maker begins to turn and run through a cycle. Press it for at least 3 seconds. If the ice tray turns then it means it is working well.
2)heater custom cube
When you’ll open the ice room you’ll not find any on/off switch. To the left side of the heater custom cube, you’ll find a small hole. All you need now is a pin that you can put through that hole. After putting that pin in that whole press it for 3 seconds or more until the tray starts to turn. Wait for 24 hours to see ice production.
If the steps mentioned above to reset your ice maker doesn’t help you then power off the fridge for 30 seconds and then turn it back on. Give your ice maker a firm and gentle shake. Sometimes a manual reset might help. This process will make sure about the motor working condition and if the water pipe is connected well or not.
